Injection Pump Electronics Failure:
These fault codes indicate internal electronic failure of the Bosch PSG5 pump-mounted ECU. Clearing codes or replacing sensors will not fix this issue.
What Do PSG5 Fault Codes P1564, P1664 & P1665 Mean?
Vehicles fitted with the Bosch PSG5 (VP44) diesel injection pump store fault codes P1564, P1664 and P1665 when the pump’s internal ECU detects control or feedback failures. These are electronic faults inside the pump control module, not mechanical pump wear.
Common Vehicles Affected
- Vauxhall / Opel 2.0 & 2.2 DTI
- BMW 320d (early models)
- Audi / VW V6 TDI VP44
- Ford Transit diesel (VP44)
- Various PSA & VAG diesel engines
Common Causes
- Failed PSG5 internal power supply circuit
- Overheating of pump-mounted ECU
- Dry solder joints inside the module
- Voltage spikes or low battery damage
- Internal driver circuit failure
Typical Symptoms
- Engine cuts out while driving
- Non-start or hot start failure
- Sudden loss of throttle response
- Engine warning light illuminated
- Fault codes reappear immediately
Our Bosch PSG5 Repair Solution
Main dealers usually condemn the entire injection pump. We repair the PSG5 electronic module itself: rebuilding internal circuits, reflowing solder joints, restoring power regulation, and bench-testing under load. In most cases, the original pump can be retained.
